On Tuesday, I expressed my concern that Pirates left fielder Starling Marte was striking out at an alarming pace (47% of his plate appearances, tops in the National League), and that this was way too much for him to be an effective hitter.
He sat out the game that night and returned to action Wednesday, going 0-for-3 in the Pirates' 1-0 loss to the Tigers. He grounded out twice and flew out, but there were no strikeouts, so there's that. He's not leading the league in strikeout rate anymore. (He's second to Diamondbacks middle infielder Chris Owings.)
And now, we've got more evidence that the tide's turning: Stephen Nesbitt of the Post-Gazette reports that Marte's shaved his head. So we're good.
